I wasn’t in Kansas anymore. Well, I have never been to Kansas, but you get my point. This place definitely was outside the Western hemisphere.

I was new on the job, still on probation period, still figuring out what I was supposed to be doing, and still keen on following all the rules to the letter.

When I stepped out of my front door, I almost tripped over the box full of vegetables I ordered the week before. It was standing on the edge of the first floor landing, a scribbled note attached to it saying in capital letters to leave the empty box next to the street door. Exclamation point.
